Church of Skatinism: Overview

Mission Statement The Church of Skatinism celebrates the art of skateboarding as a path to self-discovery, personal growth, and community. We believe in the power of skateboarding to teach resilience, creativity, and the strength found within oneself. Through shared experiences and mutual support, we aim to foster a welcoming and inclusive community where every individual is respected and valued.

Vision Statement Our vision is to cultivate a more creative, resilient, and inclusive society through the practice and philosophy of skateboarding. By promoting self-efficacy, critical thinking, and bodily autonomy, we empower individuals to make choices about their lives and bodies, fostering a community grounded in mutual respect and support.

Key Concepts and Practices

Gravitational Communion: A deeply personal ritual where each skater’s unique approach to skateboarding is celebrated. It is a time for individuals to connect with their inner strength, creativity, and resilience. Each skater’s approach is their own, unique to them and should be trusted. Their creativity is a unique gift, and being true to it is essential.

The Altar: The skateboard is our sacred tool and symbol of self-efficacy. Each scar and scratch on the board tells a story of trial and overcoming, guiding us through life’s challenges.

Sanctuaries and Shrines: Our skateparks, referred to as Sanctuaries, and smaller skate spots, called Shrines, are spaces for practice, connection, and community building.

Sacred Slams: Acknowledging the life lessons learned from falls and failures, with the community always ensuring the well-being of the skater who falls.

Sages: Skateboarding mentors within the Church of Skatinism context who emphasize gentle wisdom and encouragement.
